While we love each and every one of Skinstitut's formulas, it’s no secret Glycolic Scrub 14% has a special place in our heart.
Not only is it part of the Real. Skin. Heroes. Core Four and a bestseller, it has endless uses beyond baseline exfoliation.
Whether you’re intrigued or an existing fan looking to see our best-ever exfoliator work even harder, keep reading for 10 of our favourite ways to use it.
What’s In It?
Glycolic Scrub 14% is a simple but effective formula that champions (spoiler) Glycolic Acid and Jojoba Beads to exfoliate and resurface the skin. If you’re new here, Glycolic Acid is a water-soluble Hydroxy Acid that dissolves the glue-like bonds that hold dead cells together, which if not exfoliated, can lead to congestion, dullness and pronounced signs of ageing. We've also included Tea Tree Oil for its antibacterial properties.
We know that these days, scrubs or physical (‘grainy’) exfoliators get a bad rap, but our Jojoba Beads are both biodegradable and rounded, so they’re ocean-friendly, and there’s zero risk of those mythical ‘microtears’. This is not like the scary scrubs from your teenage years; instead Glycolic Scrub is a seriously effective cosmeceutical formula – and we’ve got the five-star reviews to prove it!
Who’s It For?
Exfoliation is an essential step for all skin types, and because Glycolic Scrub 14% is so versatile, it’s a formula we recommend to everyone (perhaps with the exception of highly sensitive or reactive complexions, but we’ve got you covered).
From pre-event prep to body care, read on for Skinstitut's top uses:
As a deep facial exfoliant
Glycolic Scrub 14% is, first and foremost, an excellent means to exfoliate your skin. Glycolic Acid and Jojoba Beads work as a powerful duo to remove any cellular build-up, leaving your skin immediately soft and smooth. Long-term, it works to reduce congestion and textural irregularities, too. Use it after your facial cleanser.
As a gentle facial exfoliant
Is your skin more on the sensitive side? Mix Glycolic Scrub 14% with an equal amount of Gentle Cleanser, emulsify with some water and massage it in for a few minutes. You’ll reap the resurfacing benefits without the risk of irritation.
As a nourishing facial exfoliant
Face feeling dry, depleted or in need of a boost? Mix Glycolic Scrub 14% with some Repair Balm and apply to dry skin. The Scrub will provide an exfoliating action while Repair Balm will nourish your complexion thanks to its lipid-rich formulation. Remove after a few minutes for baby-soft skin.
As a spot treatment
Fun fact: Glycolic Scrub 14% also makes for a great spot treatment. Not only does the acid component remove pore-clogging cells, but Tea Tree oil will reduce pimple-causing bacteria. Apply a little to any active spots and leave for five to 10 minutes before rinsing.
As a body exfoliant
Our scrub isn’t just reserved for facial use, either. From back breakouts to bumpy ‘chicken skin’ on the backs of arms, the formula can also be used to smooth and decongest the skin on your body. Work it into your shower routine a few nights a week.
To treat ingrown hairs
On that note, the hybrid formula is an effective way to both prevent and treat in-grown hairs. Gently buff into any affected areas to untrap hairs and keep the area bump-free.
Post-laser hair removal
If you’ve had laser, you’ll know there’s nothing quite like Glycolic Scrub 14% to dislodge hairs a few days post-treatment. Satisfaction level: 100.
To perfect your self-tan
Tanning enthusiasts will know that the secret to an even glow is exfoliating beforehand, especially the elbows, knees and ankles. Fortunately, Glycolic Scrub 14% is well and truly up to the task. Bonus tip: if you end up with streaks or stained wrists, use it to remove excess pigment.
As a lip scrub
If you’re partial to a bold lip, this trick is for you: take a pea-sized amount of Glycolic Scrub 14% and gently work it in your lip contour. Remove with a damp cloth and dab on a little lip balm. You’ll be left with a plump, flake-free pout that’s prepped for lipstick.
To elevate your at-home manicure
Doing your own nails? Level up results by taking a tiny amount of scrub and using it to remove ragged cuticles and smooth out ridges. Follow up with your favourite polish and a luxe hand cream.
