You’ve probably seen the ‘Cica’ trend everywhere by now, and for good reason! These products provide a wealth of soothing, strengthening and repairing benefits for sensitive, irritated and damaged skin. Cica, short for the French word cicatrisation which means healing, products have been popular in the French beauty market for years. The rise of Centella Asiatica in K-Beauty has really put Cica products on the map so if you’re new to the Cica craze, keep reading…

BIODERMA’s Cicabio Crème is the first-aid kit essential that can be used by the whole family (including babies) for anytime your skin has become damaged, is feeling irritated or just needs some TLC. Cicabio Crème was developed to support mildly damaged skin.

Formulated according to BIODERMA’s commitment to healthy skin, Cicabio Crème delivers a multitude of benefits using powerful, biologically active ingredients. It was developed to nourish and strengthen the skin, promoting skin repair by optimising epidermal renewal and feeding the skin with moisture to create an ideal healing environment.

The skin barrier can be irritated or damaged by various types of stress, causing feelings of discomfort, itching, transepidermal water loss, and dry patches. Whether caused by unintentional damage like cuts, grazes, burns and incorrect skincare products or by controlled damage during in-clinic treatments like laser and peels, it is important to care for the skin during the healing process.

Cicabio Crème’s formula focuses on 3 key priorities when it comes to damaged skin.

Restructuring

When the skin barrier has become compromised, the body’s natural healing process kicks in to quickly protect the skin from infection and begin the repair phases. Cicabio Crème uses key ingredients to help mimic these natural processes and ensure the key stages of healing are supported: Resveratrol, a potent antioxidant ingredient; Asiaticoside, madecassic acid & asiatic acid, the main active substances in Centella Asiatica which is a well-known ingredient for supporting the skin’s reconstruction process.

Moisturising

No more drying out wounds to help them heal because hydrated skin provides the best environment for skin regeneration! Hyaluronic acid is naturally present during the healing process in the skin. The high-molecular-weight in Cicabio Crème provides a ‘breathable film’ effect on the skin to ensure the optimal environment during the healing process and provides skin comfort thanks to its ability to hold one thousand times its weight in water.

Calming

When the skin becomes damaged or irritated, usually the first thing we notice is discomfort. And, while the skin is healing, itching is also a common symptom. Calming down irritation on the skin is an important step in restoring quality of life. Whether your face is feeling sensitive from overdoing the actives or you’ve cut your finger while cooking, skin irritations big and small can be an ongoing burden. The Antalgicine™ active ingredient in Cicabio products quickly restores comfort in the skin, soothing painful sensations and reducing the urge to scratch as the skin heals. A biomimetic lipopeptide, biomimetic meaning it mimics elements naturally found in the skin, the skin recognises the ingredient as its own allowing the Antalgicine™ active ingredient to penetrate the skin and work effectively.

On top of these particular actions, Cicabio Crème also contains BIODERMA’s patented DAF™ complex which is included in all products across the brand. This is a combination of biomimetic sugars designed to increase the skin’s tolerance threshold through antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, hydrating and protective actions so the skin is lastingly strengthened.

Cicabio Crème is formulated for all types of superficial wounds and minor damage to the skin and can be used for a variety of skin concerns, however, here are some of our favourite ways to use it:

·       Cuts

·       Grazes

·       Burns/Sunburn

·       Insect bites, like mosquitos and sand flies

·       Cuticle care

·       Chapped lips

·       Skin irritation from actives and retinoids

·       Post-laser & peels

If you’re looking for a thicker, more occlusive cream, the Cicabio Pommade has all the same restructuring, moisturising and calming benefits as Cicabio Crème but with a barrier-creating texture for skin that has been further compromised like eczema flare-ups, nappy rash and cracked heels.

All BIODERMA products are formulated according to Ecobiology. The Ecobiology approach uses the skin as the first inspiration when developing products, looking as how it functions in a healthy state in order to mimic this process when the products are applied to the skin. This is done through using biomimetic ingredients and supporting the skin’s natural ability to find balance.

Cicabio products do not contain SPF. In order to avoid scarring, skin should be protected from UV using sunscreen and covering. If skin oozes or irritation persists, consult with a healthcare professional. Only apply to the lips from the age of 6 months. For external use only.
