HOW TO PROTECT YOUR SKIN FROM POLLUTION AND OTHER AGGRESSORS

Everyday we’re breathing in high levels of pollutants and absorbing them via our hair and skin.

Can your skincare routine help to protect you against pollution and external aggressors?  We look at some of the best ways to boost our skin barriers.

Our skin is designed to keep certain things out– think environmental aggressors, pollutants and allergens – and other things (such as water) in, and it achieves this with help from the skin barrier.  However, if your barrier is compromised you could experience a whole host of skin issues including dryness, tightness, sensitivity as well as breakouts, rashes, and itchy flaky skin.

Pollution, dirt and grime are just some of the aggressors that your skin deals with on a daily basis, however Dr.Hauschka skincare can work double duty to keep you better protected.  Dr Hauschka Australia Skin Care expert, Melanie Anderson gives her tips on how to protect your skin from the elements.

Clean Up Your Cleanser

Over-cleansing and over-exfoliating are the most common ways to damage your protective skin barrier, potentially leaving you with dry skin and pimples at the same time!  These skin complaints are often seen when using harsh chemicals cleansers. Thankfully Dr.Hauschka has recently released a new Cleansing Balm which preserves the skin’s natural hydrolipid barrier.  This gel cleanser becomes milky when mixed with water and it removes makeup, dirt and grime efficiently while leaving your skin soft, clean and cared for.

Dr.Hauschka Cleansing Balm includes Rügen chalk, a component long-known precisely for its cleansing effect. It has a particularly large surface area which absorbs impurities and excess sebum.   If you like the idea of exfoliation why don’t you try Dr Hauschka’s Cleansing Cream made with almond meal, pressed into the skin instead of rubbed into the skin.  This fermented cleanser respects your skin’s barrier while still leaving your skin feeling clean and healthy.

Temper Your Toner

Toners are an essential part of your daily skin routine, formulated to help your skin stay clean and minimise damage caused by external elements.  However, as Dr Hauschka’s expert Melanie Anderson explains, not all toners are created the same.  You must read the ingredients list and avoid toners that include SD Alcohol or Artificial fragrances and colours which will most definitely disrupt your skin’s barrier protection.  You also need to ensure the toner you use suits your skin.

Dr Hauschka has created two natural herbal toner formulations; Facial Toner which is formulated for normal, dry or sensitive skin and Clarifying Toner for oily or combination skin that is prone to pimples.

Master Your Moisturiser

Your skin, just like you, is unique and you need to find the moisturiser that suits your particular needs. For over 50 years, Dr Hauschka has been perfecting and building their range of moisturisers to cater for all skin needs from sensitive dry skin, to oily combination skin, mature skin and young.  However, some moisturisers are more protective than others, for example Dr Haushcka’s original Rose Day Cream with its combination of shea butter, rose petal wax and avocado oil protect the skin and help retain moisture.  Dr Haushcka’s Clarifying Day Oil with its composition of medicinal plant extracts and six nourishing oils can help to heal oily acne skin when used on it’s own, and can also be mixed with your favourite Dr.Hauschka Moisturiser to provide additional protection against the elements.
