Drenched in Colour and Hydration: Lipsticks for this Summer

Nourishing and Hydrating Lipstick
True fun when applying makeup comes when it feels good on your skin, especially when it comes to lipsticks. These days I’m more fussed about how the formula sits and performs on my lips than fretting about whether a colour compliments my skin tone. Colour sparks our imaginations, makes us feel more open to new experiences and ultimately makes us happier before we step out the door (or spend a cosy day in). As someone with skin on the drier side (our Australian sun definitely plays a role in this), I’m always applying lip balm throughout the day - as I’m sure most of us are. In the past, I steered away from lipstick, especially brighter colours, no matter how beautiful I thought they were, and if I wanted to wear one I’d often need to lather a mountain of moisturising lip balm on my lips an hour before applying to ensure there are no cracks for the pigment to fall into. When it comes to lipstick, especially those with brighter, bolder colours it is the formulation, the inclusion of nurturing, moisturing ingredients that makes or breaks whether I can wear the colours that draw me in.
In order for a lip colour colour to reach its full potential, it must be made with genuinely good ingredients that consider your lip health, and how it sits on the delicate skin at the centre of your face. Does it settle on the edges? Does it look patchy and not stick to certain parts of your lips? Does it bleed?
The Best Hydrating Lipstick
One lipstick I am loving at the moment, as it ticks ALL the boxes, is the new jane iredale ColorLuxe Hydrating Cream Lipsticks. They are available in a range of ultra-wearable creamy satin shades. From berries, nudes, reds and pinks, there will always be a shade for your mood. Contrasting colours to your skin tone can look striking. Nude shades Bellini, Toffee and Espresso are perfect for day or night. You can line your lips with brighter berry shades like Mulberry or add a juicy red, like Candy Apple, to the middle for a fuller pout and pinks like Tutu are soft and feminine. There is so much fun to be had, especially for festive parties this summer season. Intuitively, we know that while those techniques are fun to think about, none of them matter so long as the colour you're wearing ignites joy and feels good.
Like the name suggests, ColorLuxe Hydrating Cream Lipstick is formulated with colour and hydration at the front of mind. Lasting moisture from the moment you apply is due to Sunflower Seed Oil that contains high quantities of vitamin E that support the skin’s ability to retain much needed moisture to protect and nourish. Cocoa Butter is a natural antioxidant and moisturiser known for its restorative properties. When applied, my lips instantly look more hydrated and full, which is also thanks to Portulaca Pilosa Extract that is rich in omega-3 fatty acids. These ingredients provide the appearance of fuller lips in a subtle way as they support collagen production for a more supple appearance.
Thoughtfully curated ingredients make these colourful lipsticks a summer essential as they reflect bright, festive hues, juicy berries and everyday nudes that can be applied in a myriad of different ways to suit your own personal style. That is why it is my go-to this season and a handbag staple. I love the stunning gold packaging and shades, but most of all love how it will nourish my lips from the first swipe until long after it’s taken off.
In the images I wear Nutmeg jane iredale Lip Pencil Crayon and shade Scarlet in the jane iredale ColorLuxe Hydrating Cream Lipstick.
